Business Need:

A Texas staple, H-E-B is an epicenter that provides a fundamental resource to community members at a fair price. Because H-E-B relies on the communities it is located in and on the land that produces mass quantities of the food it sells, H-E-B needed a way to ensure the environmental well-being of the communities who depend on their products. 

Partnership:

H-E-B works to champion sustainability initiatives throughout its own operations and through partnerships with environmental organizations across the Lone Star State. Since 2007, the Earth Month tear pad campaign has raised $1.5 million. All H-E-B (and Central Market) customers can add $1, $3, $5, or $10 to their purchase, both in store and online. The donations help members pursue environmental initiatives (from air to water quality, habitat cleanups and restorations, and much more) all across Texas. As our Executive Director Francoise Van Keuren stated, “This campaign represents ‘Texans taking care of Texas.’”

The Solution

Summary

The Earth Month tear pad campaign begins in April and ends in May. All H-E-B (and Central Market) customers can add $1, $3, $5, or $10 to their purchase, both in store and online. Donations go to EarthShare Texas’ 30+ member charities. The donations help members pursue environmental initiatives (from air to water quality, habitat cleanups and restorations, and much more) all across Texas.

Advantages

This 5-6 week campaign provides customers the reassurance of H-E-B’s solid commitment to protecting the communities they share resources with. Meanwhile, as the largest federation of environmental nonprofits in Texas, our state-wide marketing and proud support of H-E-B lasts all year long.

Business Need:

Customers of Reliant, an NRG Company, depend on the electrical grid for their everyday energy needs. Meanwhile, electrical energy consumption and production emits carbon (which currently affects climate change). Reliant needed practical ways to protect the climate and the infrastructure its customers depend on.

Partnership:

Reliant EcoShare℠ creates a proactive partnership between the customer’s consumption and conservation. Since 2011 this state-wide program available to all Reliant customers has raised more than $2 million and grows monthly. Customers can help make a change simply by paying their bill, supporting all 30+ EarthShare Texas member charities missions. 

The Solution

Summary

Through Reliant EcoShare℠, customers pay a small additional charge to their bill that goes towards donating to EarthShare Texas plus purchasing carbon offsets.

Advantages

Reliant EcoShare℠ creates a two-birds-one-stone approach. Reliant’s functionality and the environment are being protected by combining the contribution of an EarthShare Texas donation and purchasing of carbon offsets. Overall, this program supports clean energy throughout Texas every month it exists with continual marketing and proactive support from EarthShare Texas’ state-wide network.
