Through support from H-E-B, EarthShare Texas hosts the Green Leaders Fellowship annually: a program designed to cultivate emerging environmental professionals through hands-on experience, strategic mentorship, and mission-driven placements across the state.

This blog series highlights the work of our 2025 Fellows, showcasing the research, storytelling, and advocacy they contributed to their individual host organizations. From policy analysis to community engagement, each fellow brought a unique lens to the environmental challenges facing Texas today.

Fellow Spotlight: Kimberley Juarez
Host Organization: Austin Youth River Watch
Focus Area: Creative Outreach & Environmental Education Strategy

As a 2025 Green Leaders Fellow, Kimberley Juarez joined Austin Youth River Watch (AYRW) with a mission to elevate environmental education through creative communication. A Latina media-maker and environmental advocate from Brownsville, Texas, Kimberley brought her background in radio-television-film, graphic design, and community outreach to the table—along with a passion for storytelling and justice.

Revamping the Field Trips & Presentations Program
AYRW’s Field Trips & Presentations program connects students and educators to hands-on watershed education. But the program’s online presence and outreach strategy needed a refresh. Kimberley stepped in to redesign the webpage, develop new materials, and build a communications plan that better reflected the program’s value and impact.

Here’s a look at what she tackled:

Field Trips & Presentations Webpage
Kimberley restructured and rewrote the program’s webpage to clearly communicate its goals, logistics, and benefits for educators and students.

Outreach Materials
She created a suite of flyers, graphics, and social media posts tailored for schools, community partners, and tabling events like Rebel Fest and Squirrel Fest.

Educator Engagement
Kimberley met 1:1 with teachers, researched TEKS alignment, and designed a streamlined Field Trip Request Form to make participation easier and more accessible.

Key Deliverables Included:

  • Redesigned Field Trips & Presentations webpage
  • Field Trip Request Form integrated into AYRW’s communications strategy
  • Custom flyers and social media assets for outreach
  • Community tabling support at Rebel Fest and Squirrel Fest

Milestones Completed:

  • Conducted site visits and observed AYRW’s afterschool programming
  • Researched TEKS standards to align program content with classroom needs
  • Collaborated with staff on budget planning and educator outreach
  • Designed and distributed materials across AISD and local networks

“Working on this project gave me a chance to support River Watch in sharing their Field Trips & Presentations program in a clearer, more engaging way,” Kimberley shared. “From designing materials to connecting with educators and community members, I’ve learned so much about how communication can uplift environmental education.”

Recommendations from Kimberley for Environmental Educators:

  • Make it visual. Graphics and design help make your message stick.
  • Meet people where they are. Outreach works best when it’s tailored to your audience’s needs.
  • Keep it clear. Simplicity and clarity go a long way in building trust and engagement.

Kimberley now seeks opportunities that combine media, community engagement, and environmental impact. With experience in video production, design, and youth programming, she’s continuing to use creative tools to build a more just and sustainable future.
