Through support from H-E-B, EarthShare Texas hosts the Green Leaders Fellowship annually: a program designed to cultivate emerging environmental professionals through hands-on experience, strategic mentorship, and mission-driven placements across the state.

This blog series highlights the work of our 2025 Fellows, showcasing the research, storytelling, and advocacy they contributed to their individual host organizations. From policy analysis to community engagement, each fellow brought a unique lens to the environmental challenges facing Texas today.

Fellow Spotlight: Aly Foreman

Host Organization: National Wildlife Federation – Texas Office
Focus Area: Climate Education & Native Plant Advocacy

A proud native Texan and devout naturalist, Aly Foreman joined the National Wildlife Federation’s Texas education team with a mission to strengthen climate education and ecological literacy across the state. With a Professional Science Master’s degree in Ecology and Environmental Sustainability from Texas Tech, Aly brought a deep understanding of human-nature relationships and a passion for environmental justice, sustainable agriculture, and access to education.

Linking Texas Programs to EcoSchools US

Aly’s fellowship focused on connecting Texas-based initiatives to the national EcoSchools US campaign—developing resources that educators, green teams, and school districts could use to activate climate awareness and native plant stewardship.

A few key achievements included:

  • EcoSchools Action Cards Aly researched and created two new action cards—“Monarch Awareness” and “Connections to the Land”—designed to help students explore ecological themes through storytelling, science, and community engagement.
  • Regional Native Plant Lists Aly collaborated with internal and external partners to compile verified native plant lists tailored to specific Texas regions, formatted for educator use and public outreach.
  • Marketing and Outreach Materials Aly used Canva to design flyers and visual guides that supported the Federation’s education team and helped promote EcoSchools campaigns across Texas.

Key Deliverables Included:

  • Action Card: Monarch Awareness
  • Action Card: Connections to the Land
  • Regional Native Plant Lists for educator outreach
  • Canva-based marketing materials for EcoSchools campaigns

Milestones Completed:

  • Researched and verified native plant data by region
  • Created educator-facing materials using NWF templates
  • Collaborated with partners to align messaging and content
  • Supported outreach at the school district and green team level

Recommendations from Aly for Environmental Educators:

  • Use local context. Regional plant lists and community stories make learning personal and relevant.
  • Keep it flexible. Self-guided tools help educators adapt to different classroom needs.
  • Make it visual. Clear, engaging design supports accessibility and impact.
